Amethyst is a variety of quartz that is found worldwide. It can vary in colour from white through to deep purple.
The purple colouring of amethyst comes from the inclusion of manganese in the crystal. The deepest purple amethyst comes from Uruguay.
Purple is a colour which much symbolism. You may associate purple with:

- The church.
- It also used to be a colour of mourning.
